Vienna Connect Ljubljana 2026

24. - 26.3.2026

From March 24 to 27, the renowned international conference on sustainable urban development, "Urban Future," took place in Ljubljana. Experts from Vienna exchanged ideas with participants from 290 cities on topics such as vibrant city centers, the circular economy, the resilience of urban societies, and change communication. The City of Vienna's participation was organized by its International Offices. The conference also saw the premiere of the new event format "Vienna Connect," which underscored the importance of international cooperation for the development of livable, sustainable, and inclusive cities.

During panels, presentations, and strategic networking sessions at “Urban Future,” the Viennese experts presented innovative solutions from Vienna. For example, the panel “Women Changing Cities” discussed how gender-equitable urban planning improves the quality of life in a city for all residents. Other key topics addressed by the Viennese delegation included participatory urbanism, temporary use of vacant buildings, sustainable tourism management and modern administrative structures.

The City of Vienna’s information lounge was open to interested visitors throughout the event. Guests could submit their suggestions for solving current urban challenges in Vienna on an ideas wall and win small prizes.

A networking event organized by the City of Vienna in collaboration with its partner institutions Advantage Austria Ljubljana, the Municipality of Celje, Eurotowns and “Climate-neutral City” on the evening of the first conference day provided an opportunity for international exchange in an informal setting.
